Woohoo Local Boy Tristan Skolrud pulled of his first junior A cyclocross win this past Sunday. Tristan is 14 and races in the highly competitive Junior A (18 and under) field. Tristan scored second in the previous race and I believe he now leads the points series. Tristan's brother Severin also had a great race and finished 4th. The following is an exerpt from nwracereport.com:

"In the junior race, the Rad Racing duo of Will Freeman and Tristan Skolrud ripped through the B field after starting 30 seconds in arrears and hit the front of the race after two laps.

Skolund rolled to the overall despite a 30-second deficit.

Skolrud, from Yakima, established a 12-second lead with two laps to go and held it to the end. Freeman rode most of the second half of the race with University of Washington rider Troy Heithecker. He beat out Heithecker for second.

Both the Rad Racers seemed to be peaking in preparation for the nationals at Napa, Calif., starting Dec. 14. Both expressed surprise at their rapid ascent through the B field.

Freeman (right) beat Heithecker for second.

"I was really surprised. I thought there were a lot more guys up there," said Skolrud, who has been charging of late. "Ever since states itís all starting to click."

"I had stomach cramps on the third lap but this guy (Skolrud) was too strong for me," Freeman said. "I was looking at those guys up front and I thought, whoa, Iím in third."

Don't forget Tristan and Severin practice at Lincoln Park on Wednesdays at approx 3pm and all are welcome.
